Made to your opening, not to a standard size
A door is the one piece of furniture in a house that is used several thousand times a year, and the first thing a visitor touches. It is also the piece most often bought on price alone, which is why so many of them stick in July and rattle in January.
Every door here is made to order at your opening size — there is no standard list to choose from — in solid hardwood, engineered timber or a combination, depending on where it is going and what it has to put up with.
What actually matters, before the design does.
The door that is judged before anyone is inside. Usually the heaviest and the widest, which is why a pivot fitting is often better than side hinges: it carries weight the hinges cannot, and allows a leaf wider than a hinged door permits.
Lighter, and the place where engineered construction is frequently the better answer — a wide flat leaf in solid timber is more likely to cup than one built in layers. We will tell you where that applies rather than sell you the heavier option.
Bathrooms, utility areas and anywhere exposed to weather. Teak is naturally oily and stable; ordinary engineered board in these positions is a mistake regardless of price, because once it swells it does not recover.
Traditional panelled and carved doors in sheesham, worked by hand. The panel is left free to move within its frame, which is precisely what keeps a panelled door from splitting as the seasons change.
Doors are quoted after a survey of the opening, because an opening is rarely as square as the drawing says. Send us a photograph and the rough dimensions and we will tell you what is involved.
Every piece is built after you order it — your size, your wood, your finish.
